5 Beauty Secrets You Should Be Doing Before Bed

In my line of work, I get asked a lot of questions regarding hair care and beauty and so today I thought I would share 5 tricks that I use to keep my hair and skin in check before hopping into bed!

1.Brush Your Hair Every Night One of the top questions I get asked as a hairstylist is, “How often should I be washing my hair?” It is no secret now that washing your hair everyday is a big no no, but BRUSHING your hair every night is a big yes yes! If you want the honest truth I might wash my hair once a week! Yep I said it, once.a.week. (don’t judge me) but you still need to be stimulating your scalp. If you are someone who does not wash your hair frequently, your hair and scalp are building up with oils and product build up. Why do you think the latest trend in haircare are detox and charcoal sprays and shampoos! Brushing your hair helps to stimulate your hair follicles which helps circulation in the scalp and promotes hair growth and also helps breakup any product you have applied throughout the day. So brush away ladies!

2. Flip Your Pillow Again if you are someone like me who does not wash their hair everyday this is something to keep in mind. All of the oils, product, and impurities that we don’t wash out of our hair daily goes right onto our pillow and can cause blemishes and break outs that no body has time for! I will use one pillow case for a few nights (one on each side) and then replace. I know this seems extreme and who has time to switch their pillow cases that often?! But thanks to Home Goods and amazon (I’ve linked them) you can literally buy a pack of basic pillow cases to have on hand and swap out often.

3. Silk Pillowcase If you have not heard about the benefits of a silk pillowcase I am here to tell you about them! Because we are on a non washing hair trend, this is one more thing to help you get by a few more days! A silk pillow case helps extend the blowout you worked so hard for and also keeps your hair smooth and healthy. It will help with those pesky fly aways caused from breakage and keeps your hair from getting those funky kinks (hello cowlicks ugh). I could also sit here and add, “sleep on your back and don’t let your face get pressed up against your pillow” but umm ya that’s not how I sleep! If you are a lucky one who can do this, bless you but I am a face pressed all up in my pillow kind of girl and because of that I am more susceptible to face wrinkles (wom wom) but silk pillowcases will help with that too! Prices for these can vary but I have linked a few that you can try before you go all in!

4. Wash Your Body Last I keep a brush and a clip in my shower and when I have conditioner in my hair I will brush out the tangles and then after I rinse I will clip it up and out of the way. I used to wash my face and my body while I let my conditioner sit and then rinse everything all at once. Well my skin took a major turn after I had Reese and I was having major breakouts on my face, neck and back. Now I’m sure hormones had a lot to do with that but I started taking every measure to help prevent them. Washing my face and body AFTER I have rinsed my conditioner helps make sure that anything that would be clogging my pores from my heavy conditioner was removed.

5. Wash Your Face With A Washcloth Or Sponge Everyday I am obsessed with these pads and have used them for years. You can also throw them in the washing machine after a few uses. Great for removing makeup while exfoliating your skin without over doing it!

So that’s it friends! I hope that some of these simple tricks help keep your hair and skin feeling beautiful!

Perfect Neutral Lip Colors For Any Occasion

I think I have more lipstick and lipgloss than I care to admit but I always seem to stick to the same color combos and I’m totally ok with that because I am obsessed with them! I tend to always fall for a good neutral pink color. I am fair skinned so the slightest tint of pink works well with my skin tone.

I loooove a good matte lip, but lately I have been adding a little gloss on the top and I feel like it gives my lips more shape. Its also a plus when you can literally wear these colors all year long. Whether you are running errands during the week or meeting the girls for wine, these combos are perfect for any occasion!

Charlotte Tilbury “Pillow Talk”

I love love love this lip set! I wear this during the day with just a little blush and mascara and I also wear it for a full glam night out. It is such a great color for truly any occasion.

Tarte Salt Lyfe

This has also been a favorite this summer and transitions perfectly to any season. The Taste Salt Lyfe is the perfect nude/pink lipstick that is matte but hydrating at the same time. I also purchased the buxom lip gloss this summer and am obsessed! It’s great by itself and also to put over really any lip color to give your lips a little pop. It does have a tingling sensation but it doesn’t really burn like some other plumping glosses I have used, its more like a minty fresh feel. I use the color Kanani.

Chanel Rough Allure Velvet Lip #34 La Raffinee

I have posted about this Chanel lip a few times before and have been using it for years. It is a bit of a splurge but it smells so good and feels amazing on. I have been pairing it with the NYX butter gloss in angel food cake and I love the look it gives. I have a few of the butter glosses and they are great to have in my bag when I just need a little bit of a tinted shine.

I may be a creature of habit when it comes to lip color but when its good its good right?! I will link all of the lips below and let me know what your fav lip colors are!

6 Essentials You Need For Summer

I think it is safe to say that I  am obsessed with everything Blush! Our wedding colors were a creamy dreamy blush heaven, my baby shower was all blush everything and my daughter’s room is a sweet blush oasis, I could continue on but you get the picture:) I am crushing on this blush Tory Burch bag and love the size of it.  I can fit all of my junk and also diapers, wipes and extra clothes for Miss Reese!

One of my favorite spring/summer scents is Miss Dior Blushing Bouquet! It will always remind me of my wedding day and is the perfect fresh scent for spring and summer! I always feel super girly when I spray it on:) I also wear Chloe through the summer.

I am a total matte lip fanatic! These NYX matte lip colors are some of my favorites! I always love a new lip color so these are perfect size and price point to buy a new one often! I use a little Burt’s Bee’s chapstick before I apply my lip so my lips aren’t so dry.

These Wildfox sunnies are super cute and girly! I pair these with everything right now, especially a high pony and a great statement necklace! My BLUSH iwatch (blush obsession!) is also a must.  Now that I have Reese, my iWatch is super helpful when I’m not with her.  I can easily glance down at my watch while I’m working if I get a message and make sure everything is ok, this might be a first time mommy problem but it makes me feel better that have it! 🙂

Last but certainly not least, my Josie Maran Argan Balm.  I used this all throughout my pregnancy to try and avoid stretch marks and I use it even more now because my skin is sooo dry thanks to breastfeeding!  It is also nice to use after a long day in the sun to prevent peeling!

Disney Bag Essentials

So we have been Disney Passholders now since September and are finally getting the swing of things! I would by NO MEANS claim myself as a “Disney Expert” because let me tell you, some people know how to slay them some Disney haha but today I thought I would share what I pack in my bag when I take the little peanut!

This is a list of my essentials so obviously depending on season, weather, etc. I will bring other items as well! Side note: no matter what I would always have ponchos! They are not pictured but I do always have them in the bottom of my stroller because if you aren’t used to Florida, it can turn to rain real quick! I would probably recommend finding some previously from Amazon, Walmart or even the dollar store, otherwise like me, you will be paying a pretty Disney penny for those lovely plastic ponchos 🙂

Most of these items are self explanatory but I will list from left to right!

-Hat- I will wear my Mickey ears for a bit but I am a little crazy about getting sun on my face so I put this on pretty quick.

-Water- I love that you are allowed to bring in your own food and drink to the parks! I fill both Reese and I’s water before we go and then most restaurants have free water, at least on the hot months, that thy offer so I will just fill them up throughout the day.

-Diapers/wipes- duh lol, but I would still bring wipes even if Reese was potty trained (working on it) because I literally use them on EVERYTHING!

-SUNSCREEN SUNSREEN SUNSCREEN- I have seen sooo many poor people out there who are FRIED!! I saw one kid out there the other day who had full blown blisters on his arms 🙁 I use the babyganics on Reese and then I use the Elta MD on my face and the Neutrogena sheen spray (not pictured) on myself.

-Advil, lip gloss, sunnies, disney band, change of clothes for Reese, extra hair ties, hand sanitizer, bandaids and snacks! I usually pack some uncrustables or sandwiches that I make before hand along with the applesauce or really anything that is easy to hand Reese when we are walking around or in line. I keep a few dum dum’s in my backpack too so if we are waiting in line or she’s having a moment I can distract her with that! 🙂

I hope this helps! And please let me know if there is anything that you have in your bag that I need! See ya real soon! 😉

A 5 Product On-The-Go Makeup Look

Hi guys!

I wanted to share a quick 5 product look for you today! This is my go-to everyday makeup look for when I’m running errands, taking Reese to school, etc. This look is light weight and would be perfect moving into the summer months! I have saved the tutorial in my instagram highlight and linked it here for you too!! I really want to learn how to make some better videos for you than just instastories, I will work on it:)

My Go-To Hair Products

Hello loves!!

Happy weekend! Is anyone else totally ready for a glass of wine tonight?! I am trying to get back to not drinking during the week and let me tell you, it has been a struggle! I am embarrassed to admit that I count down the days but I do!! So let’s go weekend! Lol 🙂

So as a hair stylist, one of the top questions I get asked is “what hair products should I be using?” This answer can change depending on your hair and also the season and places where you live! Most of my clients are blonde and live in sunny Florida so my tips on products will cater a little more to moisture and sun protection, BUT can be used by anyone, anywhere!

With thousands of amazing products and brands out there, sometimes it takes a little trial and error to find the best product that works for you! Your hair just like your skin is constantly changing so what may have worked for you for years, may not do the same anymore so it is good to switch things up every now and then!

IGK is a great everyday S/C! I have this in my shower and I absolutely LOVE the smell of it! I used Davines products when I used to work in a salon and they are excellent! The NOUNOU is great for damaged hair that needs repair and something you could use every few hair washes and the MOMO is a hydrating and defrizzing product that you can use daily or as needed. These products are very concentrated so a little goes a long way, just keep adding water!

This mask is hands down BOMB! Highly recommend for a once a week treat:) LADIES…..YOU MUST USE A HEAT PROTECTANT! This therapy color protectant spray is a must! (Ps- shake it up before use to activate all the protecting agents)

If my hair feels like it needs some extra TLC I love these leave in products and also smell amazing.

I never used to use an oil after I styled because everything I ever used was too heavy or turned my hair brassy (ewwww) BUT I have found a solution! This oil is light weight and also brightens my blonde, goodbye yellow!!

Last but certainly not least, my Shaper Plus! My all time fav hairspray that is humidity resistant and buildable! I also probably wash my hair once or twice a week so dry shampoo is a must. This one has an amazing scent and has a volumizer in it as well so it doubles as a texture spray. I will actually spray this into clean hair to give it a little life! If you are looking for just a texture spray, I love the OUAI texture spray it seriously smells incredible!

I really could go on and on forever but I don’t want to overwhelm you! I Hope you guys get some use out of these recommendations and as always never hesitant to email or DM me if you ever have questions!

Xoxo, Shelby

Big Girl Kitchen

I’m not going to lie, taking Reese’s rocking chair out of her room crushed me!!! what happened to my little baby?!?! She is still sleeping in her crib and I will keep it that way for as long as I can but we are slowly transforming her nursery to a big girl room one tear at a time! I want her room to be a place where her imagination can fly, and let me tell you her little imagination using this kitchen and her new play house is amazing to watch! She may only want to cook pretend hotdogs but thats neither here nor there haha 🙂

I will share the rest of her room soon but wanted to share this precious corner of her room with you guys!

Rose Gold Christmas

One of my favorite things to do is decorate the house for Christmas! We live in Florida so obviously we don’t get a true winter wonderland but I try to create it inside!! This year I added a bit of rose gold to our decor and I am OBSESSED! I have saved a how to tutorial for our “mantle” (no fireplace in the new house 🙁 ) here and also linked all go the things I used below to turn our home into a rose gold winter wonderland! 🙂

Hope this helps!

Beech-Nut® Toddler Snacks

We had the best time sharing this collaboration with Beech-Nut® with you! It helps when you already love the product and Reese was extra excited to be a “model” 🙂 There may have been SOME bribery, well because trying to keep a two year old still in the Target isle is next to impossible haha! All of these toddler snack are made with as few ingredients as possible and are gluten free.  In a time when there are so many kids snacks, I’m happy that we have a selection that my child will actually eat with fruits and vegetables!

Fall Table Centerpiece

Hi friends!!!

It has been entirely too long since I have been on here and shared a blog post with you but we have had SOO much going on! I am excited that we are all moved into the new house and getting settled in nicely! Reese started school and I am working now more than ever doing hair part time, BUT I am going to try and dedicate as much time as I can to this little hobby of mine 🙂

I am so happy that I finally get to decorate our beautiful dining table! We bought it right before we decided to build a house so it went into storage for 6 months, whomp whomp! But now she is free and ready to decorate!!

I hope you enjoy these photos and you can also find a step by step video on my instagram highlights!
